Diligent's Connections NYC: Exclusive AI Briefing

Prepared for attendees of Diligent Connections NYC 2025

Thanks for all the Memories

TL;DR: Memory systems are an underexplored new AI capability, largely overlooked because major model providers are deploying them in pursuit of their specific commercial goals.

So far, AI memory has meant stored chat histories, project files, or internal prompts referenced by the model. Increasingly, though, it refers to evolving data architectures that perform ongoing semantic analysis: tracking goals, benchmarks, references, and historical trends to guide an LLM’s reasoning and actions.

This shift matters. As large vendors try to lock users into their ecosystems, many organizations are realizing that owning and analyzing their own memory and data is both more valuable and often legally required. Increasingly, this is your core IP.

Right now we don't hear much about this because it is being quietly baked into the largest models to underwrite their services portfolio. Every vendor’s approach reflects its own priorities. For example:

  • OpenAI builds overarching personal memory to make user experiences feel individualized, whereas
  • Anthropic structures memory by project, optimizing for developer context and relevance.

But as William Gibson said, “the street finds its own uses for things.” Developers, startups, and forward-leaning companies now see memory systems that let AI learn as the next major source of value. Emerging tools like Graphiti, ReasoningBank, Cognee, and Mem0 all point to this new direction.

Those who track and adopt these developments early will gain the advantage - helping their AI systems avoid repeating mistakes, hastening discovery and innovation, and compounding intelligence ahead of their competitors.
